As the new year approaches the thoughts of many turn to resolutions. Did you know that the military offers many resources that can help you keep those resolutions this year? Here are a few resources to help with the five most common New Year’s Resolutions:

Fitness

Losing weight and getting in shape after the indulgences of the holiday season will be on the mind of many this January.  Let your local military fitness facility help you get in shape by taking advantage of free access to gyms and fitness classes. Not sure where to start? Many physical fitness centers on post offer trainers for free or a small fee to help you develop a plan.

Most military treatment facilities also offer weight management classes or covered nutritionist appointments-ask your Primary Care physician for more information.

New Career/New Job Skills

Looking to start a new career, get a degree, or further your job training? Look no further than MilitaryOneSource.com to learn more about education and career opportunities, skill training, resume help, and job fairs for both active duty personnel and spouses.

Stop Smoking

Did you know that the Department of Defense has a website exclusively devoted to helping you quit smoking? At www.ucanquit2.org you can find 24/7 chat support, the Train 2 Quit Smoking Cessation program, even a calculator to help you add up how much money you’ll save once you quit.

Tricare also offers a toll free quit smoking line for Tricare Beneficiaries (number varies by region, check ucanquit2.org for your region’s specific number).  Many military medical facilities also offer in person support and you may be able to qualify for certain stop-smoking aids-ask your doctor for more information!

Spend more time with family

Most military bases are teeming with activities and opportunities for fun times with your family.  From free concerts to parks and bowling lanes, you need only access your local military newspaper to find out the latest activities to enjoy with your family on post.

Get out of Debt

Check your local installation community service office for their offerings of debt management courses and other helpful resources for getting your finances under control.  MilitaryOneSource also has an extensive archive of articles and resources for financial education and retirement planning.

No matter what your resolution, chances are your local military installation or military online resources can help you be successful this coming year!
