What I Love about Army Life

Being an Army wife has been a difficult and humbling experience for me. Seven years ago this November we became an Army family and it hasn’t been what I thought it would be. We have had our ups and downs. Deployments and frustrations. There are however a few things I do love about the Army life…

The friends I have made

We have been stationed at three different duty stations over the last 7 years. I have met so many incredible people during that time. Some, I have become very close with and know I will be friends with forever. Others, I have a more casual relationship with but will always cherish the memories we had together. Making friends in the Army life is such a wonderful thing. Every time I start to question if this was the right path for us I think about all the wonderful people I have met and know that it was.

The places I have been

Being stationed in Germany allowed us to visit some pretty amazing places. We were able to travel to many different countries and cities. That would not have been possible without being in the Army. Getting to know Europe was a very interesting experience for me. When I was in college I thought I might try to figure out how to live in Austria for a few months. It never ended up working out but in the end I was able to live over there for much longer. I am also glad to be able to experience living in the south for a few years. It is very different from California and I am thankful for the experience.

Growing and learning through deployments

Deployments are difficult but through each one I have learned something new about myself. I have grown as a person and more in love with my husband. The distance does make the heart grow fonder. I would prefer to never have to be away from my husband but I have grown as a person because of going through our deployments.

Knowing we are doing something for our country

I love knowing that we are helping out our country by being a Military family. It makes the sacrifice worth it. It helps remind me that we going through everything for a reason. America needs people to join the Military and I am proud of my husband for joining.

The Army life can be a hard life but there have been some positives over the years. I have to keep that in mind when I get lonely or frustrated. I have to remember that a lot of good has come from our time in the Military. If you are new to the Military life, just know that through it all you will meet some wonderful people and have some wonderful experiences. You will grow as a person and you get the opportunity to be apart of history.
