Thanking You: Shop Stores that Give Back to Military this Season

It’s the time of year where we’re all thinking about things we can give to one another – but also how much we can spend while doing so. Make those hard earned dollars go a bit further by shopping at companies that support the military. Through discounts or giving back, many shops across the US make an effort to show the military personnel they are thankful for what they do.

There are so many stores and companies that offer military discounts,

I asked on my Facebook page about places that offer some kind of a discount or service provided to military families. Some may be local, some depend on the branch, and some are at a certain time per month. I’ve divided them up into categories – you can use these stores for gifts, gift cards, holiday decor, or taking the family out to eat.

Remember to ask when you aren’t sure. Often these discounts aren’t advertised at all, and sometimes a local store could decide to offer one just because you asked about it.

Other tips: always check to be sure they offer a discount before paying or ordering. Ask hotels if their military rate is really their best rate – sometimes another will be lower.

If a store doesn’t offer a military discount, be polite about it. There is no sense in leaving a bad feeling behind you and having them be glad they don’t offer one. And if you think it would benefit them to (perhaps they’re right next to a military base but have strong competition in what they sell), talk to the manager/owner about it. Explain the reasons it might be good for them to do so and to advertise it.

And when you find one? Tell others. Make sure that places that help us out get our business and money in return.
