Today, changes will be proposed to update the Family and Medical Leave Act. The new rules will help military families who require time off to care for service members who are injured or called to active duty.
The proposed rule changes will allow family members up to 12 weeks off from work to help a service member who is deployed on short notice. Family caregivers will no longer have to fear losing a job when they need to deal with issues involving child care, military functions or financial affairs.
Additionally, if a service member is struggling with a serious illness or injury, the rule change will allow their family member up to 26 weeks of leave.
Government officials plan to announce additional efforts to support military families. We will post more information as it becomes available.
